"A Coney Island Life" Analysis Essay draft - Dogun Hong

Although life seems like eternity, it may come to an end earlier than you think. Life is a topic that people go over only briefly. In one life span, there are millions of things that happen. Somethings that the person may regret or might be proud of. "A Coney Island Life" by James L. Weil shows that in order for one to live their life to the fullest, they must be careful in very choices they make because second chances are never certain.
Life has many twists and turns in a person's view. "Having living a coney island life; on a rollercoaster ups and downs." (line 1&2) This shows the author's insight on how life is seemingly similar to a rollercoaster because of all the ups and downs. Thus, this shows that we make various choices in life in which determines if the choice will be an up or a down. With many victories that have been won, small or big, " now arms filled with dolls." (line 5) Life's choices determines what happens to us and how we live our lives. One good choice leads to a good result, As one lives their life, they soon discover all the victories that they have won. As they look back at their works, it is often visible that those things were only possible with the "choices" in which they make. If they were not to make those same changes, their lives would be another story.
Life sure is a mystery. Not knowing when it will end nor knowing how it will. "I perhaps take my last ride." (line 7) shows the uncertainty in the length of life itself. As we wonder what life may hold for us we still have a thought of question when it may all end. In the poem, it shows that every choice that you make has the chance of being your last. As a result, with this in mind, you need to make sure you make the right one. "And ask, How many more times round I have left." (line 9-11) is a statement that shows the risk that we take as we live. Making the right choice is one of the most important part of living as a human being, while we wonder how much longer we have on this planet, we must remember what got us there. When we have the chance to do something, we need to choose the best option, this is because we will never know if that same chance will ever appear again. This is shown in the two sentences as we learn that life is full of uncertainties which means that the same say will never come. As a result, you will need to make your choices worth it.
All the choices that we make leads us into the future and in order to have a good future or a fulfilling life, we must be careful in the choices that we make. During a lifetime, there are many things, that happen. During this time, there will be ups and downs filled with various victories. With this in mind, there are uncertainties of when it will all end. Wondering how much longer you have to maybe make more victories. The next time that one makes a decision, s/he must be careful so that they will not regret in what they did before their end.

  1. Your essay is very evident, and it's very clear that you wanted to talk about how life is precious and that it's very important to actually do something in your life. I feel like you put a lot of personal thoughts into this because you can relate to this subject and you know that this situation will happen at some point in our lives. I don't really have much problems with your essay, I think it's pretty good and there's not really any errors. :)

  2. Overall, I really enjoyed your essay. i feel that your use of evidence and supporting evidence was very strong and on point. You put a lot of effort on this essay and it shows. Although, one thing that you could improve on is your very little gramatical errors. Besides those errors, i feel that your thesis was very affects and relates well to the whole essay and it was very smooth and consistent.

  3. YOUR INTRODUCTION NEEDS TO HAVE A ACTUAL INTRO OF THE POEM AND AUTHOR AND YOU NEED TO HAVE A BRIEF SYNOPSIS/SUMMARY OF THE POEM. AND MAKE SURE IN YOUR BODY SECTIONS THAT YOUR DISCUSSION IS DIRECTLY SUPPORTING/PROVING YOUR THESIS. CONCLUSION NEEDS TO HAVE A SUMMARY OF YOUR ANALYSIS AND RESTATE THESIS. MS(3)
